Homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products must be part of the European Commission’s
‘Pharma Package’
MEPs endorse proposals for better regulation

The industry for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products - a traditional European industry
and world leader in this field - is being prevented from potential growth. Fifteen years of experience
demonstrate that the current European regulatory framework, rather than leading towards European
harmonisation, is severely restricting this industry.
The ‘Pharma Package’ communication, announced by Industry Commissioner Günter VERHEUGEN,
focuses on better regulation for pharmaceuticals. “Medicinal products used in complementary medicine
also need to be integrated into these proposals,” states Max DAEGE, President of ECHAMP,
European Coalition of Homeopathic and Anthroposophic Medicinal Products. “A well-functioning,
harmonised, legal and regulatory environment appropriate for these medicinal products is needed
across Europe, allowing these small and medium-sized companies to have safe, high quality products
on the market.” ECHAMP represents the majority of European manufacturers of homeopathic and
anthroposophic medicinal products. In 2007 this industry had a turnover of more than EUR 1 Billion
and employed 8,000 people.
More than 100 million European citizens use homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products on a
regular basis, but restrictive EU legislation denies them free access to these products. Max DAEGE
calls on the European Commission to take political action to ensure that European citizens can choose
the medicines they prefer for their health care.
Intensive discussions took place today in Brussels between ECHAMP health experts from 14
European countries and more than 30 MEPs from 15 EU Member States. MEPs showed strong
support for ECHAMP’s initiative. Ria Oomen-Ruijten MEP endorses the importance of this initiative:
“EU citizens, patients, doctors and practitioners should have access to the medicines of their choice.
EU legislation should ensure the free movement of homeopathic medicinal products.”
The ‘Pharma Package’ focuses on three items: A Directive on information for patients concerning pharmaceuticals, a Directive amending the current system and provisions for pharmacovigilance and a legislative proposal to fight against counterfeit medicines for human use. Other topics also likely to be included in this communication are proposals for minor adaptations to Directive 2001/83/EC and to Regulation EEC/2309/93 on the European authorisation procedures, including Mutual Recognition.
At the moment homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products are not part of the ‘Pharma Package’.Today ECHAMP presented members of the Health Committee of the European Parliament with a comprehensive ‘Better Regulation’ document which identifies the problems in the field of the current European legislation for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products and proposes possible solutions.
“Without changes in the basic legislation of Directive 2001/83/EC, the process of registration and marketing authorisation for a majority of existing homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products will not be affordable, either for industry or for the competent authorities,” emphasized ECHAMP General Secretary Nand De Herdt. “Most of our members are active in a number of Member States but the current unharmonised regulatory framework does not allow them to benefit from the single market.”

Merkwürdig: ein BEWIESENES Sicherheitsprofil.
Wenn man einem Menschen bei einer Krankheit ein UNWIRKSAMES Mittel gibt, ist das Mittel IN SICH vielleicht ungiftig.
Weil es aber nicht wirkt, kann es für den Patienten tödlich sein. EBEN DIESE TATSACHE wird aber von den Esottern unter den Tisch gelogen.
Und schon sind die pro Jahr zigtausend Tote, Opfer des Wahns Homöopathie, unter den Tisch gelogen. So schnell geht das. So wenig ist der Esomafia ein Menschenleben wert...
Ein leerer Feuerlöscher kann nicht explodieren. Er wirkt aber auch nicht gegen Feuer. Nur mal so als Vergleich.
