Appointment opportunities for a new chair and 4 new members
A new chair and 4 new professional members are being sought for the Advisory Body for the Registration of Homeopathic Products (ABRHP)
The ABRHP is an MHRA Expert Advisory Committee set up under law to provide advice on the safety and quality of homeopathic products for human use in the UK.
ABRHP membership requires some working knowledge of UK/European homeopathic medicine regulation but, more importantly, the expertise and judgement to assist ABRHP business and advise MHRA when required.
The chair will provide strong leadership to the ABRHP in the fulfilment of its remit and have previous or current experience of high-level committee membership nationally or internationally.
Candidate for members should have extensive and recent experience in the following profession for each post:
general practitioner who does not practice homeopathy
community pharmacist with an interest in homeopathy
a consultant paediatrician (medically qualified) who does not practice homeopathy
a toxicologist.
The chair will receive a fee of £500 per day and members will receive £325 per day, for a time commitment of approximately 6 meetings per year.

Establishment
The Advisory Board on the Registration of Homeopathic Products (ABRHP) was established in 1994 by the Medicines (Advisory Board on the Registration of Homeopathic Products) Order 1994 (SI 1994/102) as amended by the Medicines (Advisory Board on the Registration of Homeopathic Products) Order 1995 (SI 1995/309) and Medicines (Advisory Board on the Registration of Homeopathic Products) Amendment Order 2006 (SI 2006/2386) pursuant to the powers contained in section 4 of the Medicines Act 1968.
Terms of reference
The ABRHP's terms of reference are:
a. to give advice on safety and quality in relation to any homeopathic medicinal product for human use, in respect of which a certificate of registration has been granted or applied for
b. to give advice on safety, quality and efficacy in relation to any homeopathic medicinal product for human use:
i) in respect of which a homeopathic marketing authorisation has been granted or has been applied for
ii) in respect of which a licence of right has been granted.
Note: efficacy means acceptability within the UK homeopathic tradition
