| | The organization we developed brought well over a thousand people into the Amway business as we worked tirelessly to develop a global network. Crown Ambassadors Dexter and Birdie Yager were promoted to us and these people with cult like hero status. It is reported that the majority of Amway’s global billions in annual sales comes flows through distributor Yager’s Amway business. Yager would come in and speak to our organization and tell us how fortunate we were to be working with Double Diamonds Fred and Linda Harteis. Both Harteis and Yager would speak with great reverence of Rich DeVos and Jay VanAndel, the billionaire founders of Amway.
Rich DeVos, his sons and VanAndel family members would in turn speak at distributor seminars and praise the character, integrity, values, faith and business acumen of Yager and Harteis. They were trusted mentors.
Rich DeVos authored a book titled Compassionate Capitalism in which he openly promoted the success of many Diamond level distributors, particularly Yager. The book fed the theme of “people helping people” and many “rags to Amway riches” stories. Their combined messages of God, free enterprise, family, patriotism, freedom, wealth and endless opportunity attracted a large, loyal following, particularly among conservative Christians.
Despite Amway’s corporate statements to the fact that “all views are accepted”, the distributor leadership is entirely Republican per my 10 years experience and Democrats were routinely derided as “morons”. You were either a Republican Christian or you would become one if you maintained any level of involvement. There was a constant level of conservative political promotion and religious services at seminars.
Many high profile individuals from outside the corporate or distributor world of Amway came in and their credibility drove recruitment. They consistently served a conservative Christian message. The photos in the sidebar and below will give you an idea of the level of promotion and credibility that was brought to bear upon the distributor force. Former US Presidents were paid a reported $100,000 or more per speaking engagement.
Politicians would lend their support to donors in many ways. Here is an audio message from then Texas Governor George W. Bush sent out by Dexter Yager to countless Amway distributors.
